The Endless by JonBeanHastings The Endless by JonBeanHastings
The Endless from Sandman. Done in a Japanese folding book so each character could be seen individually or all together. It's pen and ink with airbrush and was done for a Comic Book Legal Defense Fund auction.

Dream sort of looks like he has a Hitler-stache but it is a beautiful piece of work.

That'd be because I drew him like the orignal Sandman artist, Sam Kieth, did: [link]

Thanks... it was all function following form, since the book's design led to the idea for the illustration.

That's Dream (or Morpheus as he's also known). He's the title character from "The Sandman," a comic that, if you like JtHM, I'm sure you'll also like.

Nice representations. Sandman was such a great series, I really need to read it again.
This is really nice -- flows very smoothly, and (if the view is familiar with the story) you can tell the composition had some real thought behind it. The way Destruction is mostly blacked out, and with Destiny at the base of the image...
Delirium's background is fun ^.^

I'm happy to report that Mr. Gaiman liked it, too. He even signed it for the winner of the auction.

ah, an airbrush. I'm glad you mentioned that, else i would have freaked out and asked, "YOU INKED THAT BACKGROUND!?" and then passed out due to... something dumb.

I love how thre first three characters flow, the male and female both being part of the cigarette smoke. Was the part that says "The Endless" on canvas? I can see some crisscross that's usually attributable to that.

Excellent job!

The airbrush is my friend... and enemy! Easy to learn, yet hard to master (I'm somewhere in the "slightly clumsy semi-skilled" area).

The title looks different because it was done on the cover of the sketchbook, which was all bumpy-like (wheee! It's fun to try to draw precisely on a bumpy surface!) The whole thing folds up all accordion style.

Ah, the cover. Okay. Accordion style, yeah, I could see the fold lines.
Thanks!
